Buy X items for Y amount - Know More
This guide explains how to create a bundle offer where customers purchase a set quantity of items for a flat total price (e.g., "Pick any 4 items for $900"). This is perfect for building "Mix and Match" bundles from different collections.
Step-by-Step Configuration
1. Basic Setup & Product Selection
- Promotion Name: Enter a name for internal use.
- Discounted Products: Select which items are eligible for this bundle.
- Collections: You can select multiple collections (e.g., "Jewelry" AND "Perfume"). This allows customers to mix products from both categories to reach the required quantity.
2. Define the Quantity & Fixed Price
- Tiers: You can set multiple levels, but for a standard bundle, use one tier.
- Minimum Quantity (Buy X): Set the number of items the customer must add to their cart (e.g., 4).
- Fixed Amount (For Y): Set the total price for those items (e.g., 900).
- Result: Whether the items originally cost 250 each or 300 each, once 4 are added, their total cost drops to exactly 900.
3. Messaging & Combinations
- Discount Message: Customize the text customers see (e.g., "Bundle Unlocked: 4 items for $900!").
- Combinations (Crucial): Check the Discount Combination box. This ensures that if you have other offers running (like a "Free Shipping" shipping discount), this bundle price will still apply.
4. Widget & Display
- Preview: Check how the offer looks on the Product Page and Cart Page.
- Styling: Adjust the text, font color, and background color of the notification bar to match your brand.
- Scheduling: Set a start/end date or leave it open-ended.
5. Save & Test
- Go to your store front.
- Add items from the eligible collections to your cart (e.g., 2 items from "Jewelry" and 2 from "Perfume").
- Verify that once the 4th item is added, the subtotal for those items changes to the fixed amount (900).
Technical Notes & Limitations
Mix and Match Logic: If you select multiple collections, Kite treats them as a single pool. The customer does not need to buy 4 from Jewelry and 4 from Perfume; they just need 4 items total from any of the selected lists.
Currency: The "Fixed Amount" is in your store's default currency. If you sell in multiple currencies (Markets), verify how Shopify converts this fixed price for international customers.
Troubleshooting Checklist
- Price not updating? Ensure the customer has exactly (or at least) the Minimum Quantity in the cart. If they have 3 items, they pay full price.
- Discount too small? Check if the "Fixed Amount" is actually lower than the standard price of the items. If the items are on sale for cheaper than your bundle price, Shopify might default to the lower (better) price for the customer.
- Widget Text: If the widget says "Undefined," go back to the settings and ensure you entered a custom message in the "Discount Message" field.
