How to add discounts and a free gift using a single code [Shopify Plus only]

This guide explains how to configure a single discount code to perform two actions simultaneously: apply a monetary discount (e.g., 10% off) and automatically add a free gift to the checkout.

1. Prepare Your Discount Code

Before setting up the free gift rule, ensure you have a discount code ready. This code (e.g., BFCM45) can be created within the Kite app, Shopify Discounts, or any other discount platform. It handles the monetary part of the offer (e.g., 10% off the whole order).

2. Create the Free Gift Rule

Next, you will configure Kite to watch for that specific discount code and add a gift when it is used.

1. Navigate to the Free Gift on Checkout feature in the Kite app.
2. Click Create Promotion and give it a name (e.g., "BFCM Free Gift").
3. Set the Gift adding method to Auto add.
4. Set the eligibility condition. For example, select Spend X amount and enter a minimum cart value (e.g., ₹200).
5. Select the product you want to offer as the free gift.
6. Review additional settings (e.g., loader text) or skip them if not needed.
7. Crucial Step: Scroll to the Customer discount eligibility section.

• • Select Cart discount code.
  • Enter the specific discount code you created in Step 1 (e.g., BFCM45). This ensures the gift is only added when this specific code is applied.

8. Click Save.

3. Add the Rule to Your Checkout Page

To make this work technically, you must link the rule to your checkout via the checkout editor.

1. After saving the rule, click Copy ID and select the "Checkout" option.
2. Go to your Shopify Checkout editor (Online Store > Themes > Customize > Checkout OR Settings > Checkout > Customize).
3. In the editor, ensure the Free Gift app block is added to the checkout.

• • If it is not there, click Add app block at the bottom left and select the Free Gift block.

4. Click on the Free Gift block to open its settings.
5. Paste the ID you copied earlier into the Checkout ID field.
6. Click Save.

4. Verify on Your Storefront

Test the setup to ensure both the discount and the gift are applied correctly.

1. Go to your online store and add a product to the cart that meets the minimum spend requirement (e.g., over ₹200).
2. Proceed to the checkout page.
3. Enter the discount code (e.g., BFCM45) in the discount field and apply it.
4. Verify that:

• • The monetary discount (e.g., 10% off) is applied to the subtotal.
  • The free gift is automatically added to the order summary.
