How to apply discounts on recurring orders of subscription products
This guide explains how to create a discount that applies not only to a customer's initial subscription purchase but also to a specified number of their future renewal orders (cycles).
1. Start a Custom Discount
In the Kite app, begin a new promotion using the Custom Discount Builder.
2. Target Your Subscription Product
- Navigate to the "Discountable products" section.
- Set up two rules to specifically target your subscription item:
- Rule 1: Select the specific product you want to discount.
- Rule 2: Add a second rule and select the condition "is a subscription product".
- Ensure the logic between the rules is set to "All rules should apply". This confirms the discount only targets the subscription version of that product.
3. Configure Recurring Discount Settings
- Find and click the "Edit recurring discounts" button or link.
- In the options that appear, select "Recurring orders".
- An input field will appear. Enter the number of subsequent renewal orders that should also receive the discount. For example:
- Enter
10
to apply the discount for the first 10 subscription cycles. - Enter a very large number like
1000
to have the discount apply for the life of the subscription.
- Enter
4. Set the Discount and Save
- Configure the discount value itself (e.g., 10% off).
- Click Save.
How It Works for Your Customers: When a customer purchases the targeted subscription, they will receive the discount on their initial order. The discount will then automatically be applied to the number of recurring renewal orders you specified. For a weekly subscription with a limit of 10
, the customer would receive the discount for the first 10 weeks.
