How to Combine Kite and Shopify Discounts

You can let customers use both a Kite app promotion (such as a free gift) and a standard Shopify discount in the same order by enabling discount combination

settings in Shopify.

Step 1: Create and Enable Your Kite Promotion

1. In the Kite app, create your promotion (e.g., a free gift) and set its rules.
2. Ensure the promotion is active/enabled and save your changes.

Step 2: Create a Combinable Shopify Discount

1. In your Shopify admin, navigate to the Discounts section.
2. Click Create discount.
3. Select the type of discount you want to offer (e.g., "Amount off order").
4. Choose Automatic discount as the method and set up its rules.

Step 3: Enable Discount Combinations

1. On the Shopify discount setup page, scroll down to the Combinations section.
2. Check the box next to the type of discount you want it to combine with. Since a Kite free gift is a type of product discount, check the Product discounts box.
3. Click Save discount.

Step 4: Verify on Your Store

1. Add a product to your cart that qualifies for the promotions.
2. Go to the cart or checkout page.
3. You should see both the automatic Shopify discount applied and the Kite app promotion active (e.g., the free gift added to the cart).

Important Note: Shopify does not allow multiple product-based discounts to be applied to the same single item. If a product qualifies for both a Kite discount and a Shopify discount, only the best discount (the one with the highest value) will be applied to that specific item. However, an order-level Shopify discount can combine with a product-level Kite promotion.
