How to limit how many products to apply discount on - Custom Discounts
This guide explains how to use the 'Discount limits' feature in the Custom Discount Builder to control the maximum number of products that can receive a discount in a single order.
Getting Started
- In the Kite app, start a new promotion using the Custom Discount Builder.
- Set up your basic rules, such as eligibility criteria and the discount value (e.g., 10% off).
- In the campaign setup, locate the section labeled 'Discount limits'.
Note: If you leave the limit field blank or set it to 0
, it signifies that there is no limit, and the discount will apply to all eligible products in the cart.
Understanding the Three Types of Limits
You can set a limit based on three different criteria.
1. Limit by 'Total Discountable Products'
- What it does: Sets an overall cap on the total number of items that can be discounted in the cart, regardless of what the products are.
- Example: If you set the limit to
3
and a customer adds 5 eligible products to their cart, only the 3 least expensive items will receive the discount.
2. Limit by 'Same Product'
- What it does: Restricts how many units of a single, identical product can receive the discount.
- Example: If you set the limit to
1
and a customer adds 2 units of the same T-shirt to their cart, only one of those T-shirts will be discounted.
3. Limit by 'Different Products'
- What it does: Restricts the number of unique product lines (i.e., different types of products) that can be discounted.
- Example: If you set the limit to
2
and a customer adds a T-shirt, a hat, and a scarf to their cart, only the 2 least expensive unique products will receive the discount.
After choosing your limit type and setting the number, remember to Save your campaign.
