How to limit how many products to apply discount on - Custom Discounts

This guide explains how to use the 'Discount limits' feature in the Custom Discount Builder to control the maximum number of products that can receive a discount in a single order.

Getting Started

  1. In the Kite app, start a new promotion using the Custom Discount Builder.
  2. Set up your basic rules, such as eligibility criteria and the discount value (e.g., 10% off).
  3. In the campaign setup, locate the section labeled 'Discount limits'.

Note: If you leave the limit field blank or set it to 0, it signifies that there is no limit, and the discount will apply to all eligible products in the cart.

Understanding the Three Types of Limits

You can set a limit based on three different criteria.

1. Limit by 'Total Discountable Products'

  • What it does: Sets an overall cap on the total number of items that can be discounted in the cart, regardless of what the products are.
  • Example: If you set the limit to 3 and a customer adds 5 eligible products to their cart, only the 3 least expensive items will receive the discount.

2. Limit by 'Same Product'

  • What it does: Restricts how many units of a single, identical product can receive the discount.
  • Example: If you set the limit to 1 and a customer adds 2 units of the same T-shirt to their cart, only one of those T-shirts will be discounted.

3. Limit by 'Different Products'

  • What it does: Restricts the number of unique product lines (i.e., different types of products) that can be discounted.
  • Example: If you set the limit to 2 and a customer adds a T-shirt, a hat, and a scarf to their cart, only the 2 least expensive unique products will receive the discount.

After choosing your limit type and setting the number, remember to Save your campaign.
