How to Set Up a FREE Gift on Kite (Automatic) Free gift can be added automatically.
This guide explains how to create a "Free Gift with Purchase" that automatically adds itself to the customer's cart once they meet a specific requirement (e.g., Spend $500). This removes friction by eliminating the need for a "Claim" button.
Step-by-Step Setup
1. Create the Promotion
- Go to Create New Promotion > Free Gift with Purchase.
- Name your campaign (e.g., "Auto Gift Over $500").
2. Define the Rule
- Condition: Select "Spend X amount" (e.g., 500).
- Gift: Select the product you want to give away.
3. Configure Automatic Logic (Crucial Step) Scroll down to the Promotion Type section. Select Automatic. You will see two specific options for how the app handles situations where multiple rules exist (e.g., if you have multiple tiers):
- Option A: "Only one gift for all rules (Highest Price)"
- Best for Upgrades: If you have multiple tiers (e.g., Spend 100 get Socks, Spend 200 get Hat), and the customer spends 200, the app will give them only the Hat (the higher value item), not both.
- Option B: "Multiple gifts, one for each rule"
- Best for Stacking: If the customer meets multiple rules, they get all eligible gifts (e.g., they get the Socks AND the Hat).
4. Finalize & Launch
- Discount Combinations: Check the box to ensure this works alongside other discounts.
- Save: Click save to activate.
Technical Notes & Limitations
No "Claim" Button Required Unlike Manual offers, this setup does not show a "Claim" button in the widget. The widget simply informs the user of the offer. The "Add to Cart" action happens in the background.
"Buy Now" Button Warning Automatic gifts rely on the "Add to Cart" event to trigger. If a customer uses a "Buy Now" button (Dynamic Checkout) on a product page, they skip the cart step, and the free gift may not be added. We recommend encouraging users to use the standard "Add to Cart" button.
Troubleshooting
- Gift not appearing? Refresh the cart page. Ensure the subtotal meets the specific threshold ($500 in this example).
- Gift appearing but not free? Ensure the discount combination settings are enabled if another automatic discount (like a bundle script) is also running in the cart.
