How to Set Up a Tiered Cart Discount Promotion in the Kite App
This guide explains how to create a "Spend X, Get Y% Off" promotion. You can apply this store-wide or restrict it to specific collections (e.g., "Spend $1,000 on Jewelry & Perfumes to get 40% off").
Step-by-Step Setup
1. Promotion Basics & Targeting
- Navigate to Create New Promotion and select Tiered Cart Discount.
- Discount Products: Choose which items count toward the spending goal.
- All Products: The entire cart counts.
- Specific Collections: Only items from selected collections count (e.g., select "Shirts" and "Pants" for a Mix & Match strategy).
- Specific Products: Only specific items count.
2. Configure the Discount Logic
- Discount Type: Choose Percentage (e.g., 20% off) or Fixed Amount (e.g., $10 off).
- Calculation Mode: Decide how the discount applies.
- Whole Collection: Applies the discount to the total value of the eligible items.
- Individual Product: Applies to specific items.
- Mix & Match: (As demonstrated) If you selected multiple collections (e.g., Jewelry + Perfume), the system sums up items from both to check if the threshold is met.
3. Set Your Tiers Define the spending thresholds. You can have one or multiple tiers.
- Example: Set Minimum Cart Subtotal to 1,000.
- Reward: Set the discount percentage (e.g., 40%).
- Pro Tip: Use the "Add Tier" button to create steps (e.g., Spend 500 get 10%, Spend 1000 get 20%).
4. Widgets & Localization
- Language: Use the multi-language option to translate text if needed.
- Widget Display: Choose where the progress message appears:
- Product Page: Shows "Add $X more to unlock discount" on the item page.
- Cart Page: Shows the progress bar in the cart/drawer.
- Styling: Customize background, text, and border colors to match your theme.
5. Activation
- Discount Combinations: Important! Check the box to allow this offer to combine with other active discounts (like free shipping) to prevent checkout errors.
- Schedule: Run immediately or schedule for a future date.
Technical Notes & Limitations
Eligible Subtotal vs. Cart Total If you select specific collections (e.g., Jewelry), the customer must spend the threshold amount specifically on Jewelry items. If they have $500 of Jewelry and $500 of Socks, and your threshold is $1,000, the discount will not trigger because the eligible subtotal is only $500.
When to use other Offer TypesVolume Discount: Use this if you want the discount based on quantity (e.g., Buy 3 items), not spend amount.Buy X for Y Amount: Use this for fixed-price bundles (e.g., "Buy 3 for $50").
Troubleshooting
- Discount not applying? Check your threshold settings. Ensure the customer has added enough items from the correct collections to meet the goal.
- Widget looks wrong? Go back to the widget settings and ensure you have customized the colors to contrast with your site background.
