How to Set Up Discount Code Limits: Restrict to Once Per Customer and Total Number of Uses
This guide explains how to set limits on how many times a discount code can be used in total or by an individual customer.
Important: Usage limits can only be applied to manual discount codes, not automatic promotions.
1. Go to Your Discount Settings
- In the Kite app, create or edit a promotion (e.g., a "Buy X Get Y" offer).
- Ensure the promotion is set to the manual discount code method.
2. Set Usage Limits
- In the promotion's settings, scroll down to the section titled "maximum discount uses."
- To set a total usage limit: In the field for limiting the total number of uses for the discount, enter your desired number. For example, entering
2
will make the code expire after it has been used twice in total by all customers. - To limit usage per customer: Check the box labeled "Limit to one use per customer."
How the Limits Work Together
You can use both limits at the same time. For example, if you set a total use limit of 2
and check the "one use per customer" box, the discount code will become invalid after two different customers have each used it once.
How Customer Usage is Tracked
The system identifies customers by the email address they provide at checkout or by their logged-in store account. Once a customer has used the code, they will not be able to apply it again on future orders.
3. Save Your Changes
Click Save to apply the usage limits to your discount code.
