How to setup Advanced tiered discount?

This guide explains how to create a "Buy More, Save More" offer where customers unlock higher discount percentages (e.g., 10% off 2 items, 20% off 3 items) based on the quantity of eligible products in their cart.

Step-by-Step Configuration

1. Basic Setup & Product Selection

  • Name: Give your campaign a clear internal name (e.g., "Tiered CD Test").
  • Discountable Products: Choose which items qualify for the discount.
  • Options: All Products, Specific Collections, Product Tags, or even Subscription Products.
  • Note: In this example, we select "All Products" to create a store-wide volume discount.

2. Define Tiers & Triggers

  • Tiers Based On: Select "Quantity of all selected products". This means Kite counts the total number of eligible items in the cart to determine which tier the customer has reached.
  • Setting the Tiers:
    • Tier 1: Set Quantity to 2. Set Discount to 10% (Percentage).
    • Tier 2: Set Quantity to 3. Set Discount to 20%.
    • Optional: Add a "Title" for each tier (e.g., "Buy 2 get 10% Off") to display on the widget.
    • Other Modes: You can also use Fixed Amounts ($ off) or Fixed Prices (e.g., "Buy 3 for $50 total").

3. Advanced Limits & Sorting (Optional)

  • Max Items to Discount: Determine how many items in the cart actually receive the discount.
  • Leave Empty (Default): The discount applies to every eligible item in the cart once the tier is reached.
  • Set a Limit: Use this if you only want to discount a specific number of items (e.g., "Discount the first 5 items only").
  • Sorting Strategy: If you set a limit above, you must choose which products get the discount:
  • Least Expensive: Good for protecting margins (e.g., "Buy 3, get 20% off the cheapest item").
  • Most Expensive: More aggressive offer (e.g., "Get 20% off your most expensive item").

4. Save & Test

  • Eligibility: Optionally restrict this to specific Markets or Customer Tags (e.g., "Wholesale Customers Only").
  • Validation: Save the campaign and test on your storefront:
    • 1 Item: Full Price.
    • 2 Items: 10% applied automatically.
    • 3+ Items: 20% applied automatically.

Technical Notes & Limitations

Stacking Logic: Since this is a Product Discount, it typically does not stack with other Product Discounts (like a specific "20% off T-Shirts" code) unless you enable "Combinations" in the settings.
Subscriptions: If targeting subscription products, the discount will apply based on your selling plan configuration (often applying to the initial checkout order).

Troubleshooting Checklist

  • Discount not upgrading? Ensure the customer is adding items from the Discountable Products list. If they add 2 eligible items and 1 non-eligible item, the count is still only "2".
  • Discount applied to wrong items? Check your Sorting Strategy (Cheapest vs. Most Expensive) if you set a limit on the "Max Items to Discount."
  • Widget not updating? If you are using a Side Cart, ensure your theme allows Kite to detect cart changes, or try refreshing the page to see if the discount applies.
