How to setup Markets for Shipping Discounts

This guide explains how to use the Markets eligibility rule to control which countries or regions can receive your custom discounts.

Setting Up Market-Based Rules

  1. Navigate to Eligibility Rules
    • While creating or editing a promotion, such as with the Custom Discount Builder, scroll to the Customer Eligibility Rules section.
  1. Add a Market Rule
    • Click Add rule and select Markets from the list of options.
  1. Choose the Rule Logic
    • is: The discount will only be active in the markets you select from the list.
    • is not: The discount will be active in all markets except for the ones you select.
  1. Select Your Markets
    • From the dropdown menu, choose all the specific markets that your rule should apply to.
  1. Save the Promotion
    • Click the Save button.

⚠️ Important: Selecting Parent Markets (e.g., "International")

If your Shopify Markets setup includes a broad "parent" market (like "International") but you also have countries from that group configured as separate, individual markets (like "Australia" or "Canada"), please note:

  • You must select the individual countries by name in the rule (e.g., add "Australia" to the list) for the discount to apply there.
  • Simply selecting the "International" parent market will not automatically include countries that are also configured as their own separate markets.

Testing Your Setup

After saving, use your store's country/region selector to switch between an included market and an excluded market to verify that the custom discount appears and disappears as expected.
